I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. After four years of schooling, I am about to graduate. The school that I went to is a world class photography school. I am very excited to be able to earn my degree and enter the working world. At the photography school, I learned countless methods of taking pictures properly. How to use the camera and set the subject properly. It can seem like an easy thing, but there is definitely a difference between an amateur photographer and a professional.

My next task after graduation is to find a job. One of my other passions is food and cooking. I have always enjoyed eating and cooking which goes hand in hand. My mother was a great cook when I was a youngster. She would enter cooking competition and do fairly well. So I learned a few cooking and food tricks from her. My goal now is to blend my two passions and go into the field of food photography. Since I live in Los Angeles, I guess I better start off looking for work as a Los Angeles food photographer. In such a large town, I am sure I can find something.

One of my next tasks is to gather some quality photographic equipment. If I’m going to be a food photographer in Los Angeles or Orange County, then I need to be prepared with the best gear possible. And there is no shortcut either. The gear you use reflects on your food business. The better photo gear you have, the better the final results will be.

Retired to the Philippines several years ago, a webmaster suggested to me that I should consider going or living in Asia. I thought that was a pretty crazy idea. However, as an early retirement opportunity presented itself and I began to meet some Filipina that seemed to really like me, I began to see the benefit of this living in Asia idea.

This article is directed mostly toward men, since it is men that are more likely to enjoy the Philippines. Living in the Philippines requires some adjustments and a lot of those are in personal comforts. I don’t think most women from my home country would like it here. Men can usually give up some of those luxuries for some of the things they will gain in the Philippines.

Now I don’t recommend it for everyone. I am now living in the Philippines and have for the last year. I totally love it here. I have seen people come to the Philippines and leave very disappointed. You must come with an open mind and a sense of exploring new things.

If you have never been out of your home country or have never been to a developing country, I think you’re going to be in for a shock, I know I was. Some see a dirty and poor place when they come to the Philippines. I didn’t. I saw poverty but I also saw wonderful picture taking opportunities.

I had to ask the locals that met me at the airport if it was safe to walk around in the area.  I am from Memphis, Tennessee and areas that look like this are a good place to end up dead. However, here there were people every where, mostly Filipino, that assured me it was safe. It wasn’t long before I was out there with my camera.

Until you live here, it is unlikely you will really know the Filipina that you’ve been corresponding with online.

Golf is a sport steeped in tradition, and for that very reason, changes in the game are always made very slowly. So the modern golf swing has not gone through much change over the years since Ben Hogan’s diminutive frame and little book defined what a good swing should look like.

All that may soon be changing, though. A couple of respected golf instructors have developed a new golf swing after 20 years of research using real people, science and the latest computer technology. The new swing is called Stack and Tilt. It is so named because you stack all your weight over the ball and keep it there throughout the swing. The only way to effectively do this as your body is swing the club in an arc around yourbody is to “tilt” your torso toward the target.

By keeping the head directly over the ball trhoughout the swing, the golfer mainatins excellent balance and hits the ball with a precise, descending blow which rockets the golf ball off the clubface in an explosion of power. All this is done without the need to take a full backswing.

This swing is simpler, has less moving parts and forces you to hit the ball with a descending blow. A traditional golf swing has many moving parts and each motion is another opportunity for power “leaks” if not done absolutely correctly. By having fewer moving parts, there is less chance that the swing power is wasted in other areas, so all of the force is delivered to the ball.

As early as World War I when airplanes had open cockpits, pilots began seeking clothing to provide warmth and comfort in the cold temperatures of the open skies.  Thus the birth of the legendary “Bomber Jacket” or “Flight Jacket” was born.

Over the years, there have been many variations from the unofficial and popular early leather bomber jacket of 1915 through 1917 to later official military issue bomber jackets such as the 1931 “A2 Bomber Jacket.” 

Originally, pilots and crews wore whatever they could find because no formal or official clothing was issued to handle the extreme cold and weather conditions the pilots faced in world war I.  Heavy long leather jackets quickly became popular with tight snug cuffs around the writs, tight fit around the waists, and high collars to help protect from the cold.  These are the design principles that are at the core of what today we commonly think of as a flight jacket or bomber jacket.

At the end of world war I, the US army created the Aviation Clothing Board and started distributing these heavy leather jackets.

By the time World War II broke out, the US Air Corp was distributing the A-2 Bomber Jacket.  The Navy and Marine Corp were issued a similar jacket that became known as the G-1.

As aircraft technology developed throughout the war, airplanes were now flying at much higher altitudes and much higher speeds.  Temperatures inside these planes – often flying with open doors – plummeted!    And the stylish bomber jackets started to give way to a much warmer jacket with a lining of wool or fur.  These new jackets were popularized by the B3 Bomber Flight Jacket, a large wool and fur lined jacket with large cargo pockets.

Ground personnel and flight crews quickly adopted the pilot’s B3 Bomber Jacket and the new B7 Flight Jacket became the instant rage.

A decade later introduced the new age of the jet with its enclosed compartments and more attention needed to be paid to the warmth, comfort, and safety of the pilots.  The B-15 Flight Jacket was designed out of nylon and other synthetic materials to keep the pilot both warm and dry.  The lighter weight and more flexible comfort was also appreciated.  As jet technology continued to develop, the MA-1 jacket removed the fur collars because they interfered with the harness of the pilot’s parachute.  Today, you can often find both the B-15 and the Leather MA1 Flight Jackets with and without the fur collars.

By now we all know that the 2008 meltdown in the financial sector has had a major negative impact on the banking industry around the world. Even commercial real estate – which is usually considered less risky than residential – has suffered because banks who are fighting for their lives have been forced to change their lending policies.

Traditionally big banks have relied on commercial finance as one of the most lucrative segments of their portfolio. That is because larger commercial projects have been considered more reliable because lenders use more stringent evaluations of both the borrower and the risks than is the case with smaller projects.

To understand what is currently happening in commercial lending it is important to note the differences between commercial financing and residential financing. While they both involve an advance of funds based on the value of the properties involved, there are some significant differences in the way the risk is evaluated.

What happened to residential real estate is no secret. Too many irresponsible loans were made to too many people who could not afford them. The entire system came tumbling down like a house of cards when these mortgages had to be renewed. The values of the houses had declined to less than the loan amounts, and the renewal rates were more than the borrowers could afford. So thousands and thousands of people have simply walked away from their homes.

In several important respects commercial real estate loans are different. While it is true that a bank or investment company is risking more on a commercial project, commercial lending is still seen as a safer investment. For the most part, the lending conditions for commercial loans are much more stringent. Commercial borrowers are usually required to provide a large amount of collateral. They must also present accountant verified asset and income statements. As a result the lender is in a good position to make an informed decision on a borrower’s credit worthiness.

Large banks have dominated the commercial real estate sector because of the large amounts of money involved. But the meltdown has forced most big US banks to make serious changes. And these changes are having an significant impact on commercial lending.

Big banks with extensive exposure to real estate markets are pruning marginal accounts in an attempt to limit their exposure. This at times even involves telling clients in good standing to move their accounts somewhere else. And in many cases whether a commercial deal looks good or not it will not go ahead with a large bank because they have decided not to expose themselves further to that sector.

Ironically this creates opportunities for small banks, lending institutions and brokers with connections to alternative sources of commercial real estate funding. These smaller lenders are often willing to consider good deals that the large banks no longer find attractive.

Many non-vegetarians wonder what drives vegetarians to give up meat and adopt an entirely different lifestyle. There is no single answer to this question. Non-vegetarians become vegetarians for a number of different reasons – some even for multiple reasons. Most vegetarians claim that they became a vegetarian for one or more reasons.

The most mentioned reason, which many vegetarians claim, is that they have ethical problems with eating meat. Most disagree with how chickens are debeaked, forced to live in small cages, and are then slaughtered when they do not produce eggs fast enough. Most vegetarians also disagree with the crowded and stressful environments animals are forced into and the hormone laden feed used to make them grow faster and produce more.

Vegetarians come in a variety of types who practice their beliefs in varying degrees. Some object to destroying plants for the purpose of harvesting vegetables for consumption like carrots for one. The strictest variety do not even eat yeast products and object to wearing wool made from animal fibers. Far less strict are the pseudo-vegetarians who do not consume meat but are open to eating fish and chicken.

Another reason vegetarians claim for not eating meat is that it conflicts with their dietary preferences. Some of these vegetarians simply do not like the texture and taste of meat; others do not eat it because it is high in cholesterol and often contains high concentrations of hormones and preservatives.

A group of vegetarians offer a another purpose in not eating meat: environmental factors. They argue that, in order to meet the appetites of meat-eaters, farmers must progressively clear more and more land to allow cattle to graze. These reasons aside, there are still more vegetarians who give up meat consumption for completely different concepts.

My review of Our Cunard Cruise Our Cunard Cruise was a large group affair, and a sensation carnival prevailed. We left from London and joined the Queen Victoria in Barcelona. Upon check in at the ship, there was a bit of a wait, perhaps 30 minutes, but admittedly about 10 minutes of that was part of our large group. Once we were sent on through, we were able to get settled in our cabins with complete ease, and had spectacular assistance from the porters in this area. We were experienced at cruising and had over a dozen cruises Royal Carribean between us as a group.

The cabins were extremely nice, and were rather larger than we had even imagined. Having been on 6 cruises myself, I can say that these cabins were larger and better situated than those I have had on other cruise lines. My aunt has herself been a lifelong cruiser and says that Cunard has the nicest cabins, and her cabin with a balcony was really beautiful, and I would love to have one for the next time.

The food was absolutely amazing; I cannot complement the food enough. Night or day, you can literally get anything imaginable and it will be amazing quality, and fresh. Cunard does not publish the recommended gratuity levels as some other lines do, and in situations such as those involving stewards. To add a tipping guideline would be a welcome addition.

For excursions Cunard really shines. It is rare to find an excursion while cruising that is made simple and easy, but Cunard has done it. Our group was considering skipping the Monaco excursion, purely because it can be such mayhem. However, the employees made it absolutely simple to board the launch together and enjoy an absolutely lovely day in a very beautiful city.

Cunard also helped a great deal when it was time for us to board our flight home. We knew we would have a long wait in Rome at the airport, but thought it could not be avoided, as most cruise lines want you to check out by 10 am or so. Cunard told us we ( the group flying to Britain) were welcome to stay on board and eat, and enjoy the ship until closer to our departure time and that was wonderful. My whole family appreciated it, especially the elderly members who would prefer to wait in comfort rather than a crazy crowded Italian airport. Our entire group will choose Cunard again for our next cruise, and we could not be more pleased with the overall experience. The construction industry took a beating due to the financial crisis. Just how bad did home building decline? It depends where you look but overall, the numbers are very frightening. In a report released recently, new order for homes built in the third quarter of 2008 was down 25% compared to last year. In numbers, that is 2,002 homes for this year compared to 2,660 homes in 2007.

Because of what is happening in the economy, there was increase in the number of cancellations from 24% last year to 27% this year. While real estate companies tried to curb the trend by offering it to other potential buyers, the market wasn’t biting which is why there were a lot of homes that were never sold. In terms of home building revenues, that roughly translates to $928 million. If you think that is still good, look back at the sales performance last year and you will see that it was lower by 27%. These figures go on and on and they are really depressing.

So are companies making money? No and the worse part is that construction companies have to layoff hundreds or even thousands of workers in order to stay afloat. If you wanted to build a home, the only way you can do that is if you have extra money flowing around right now because most banks will not able to loan that amount to you right now.

At this rate, the construction industry will only be able to produce 817,000 new homes this year compared to 1.98 million units in 2006. That is a lot and it is note expected to improve any time soon. But are these numbers surprising? The answer is also no because it is the right reaction especially when the country is in a financial crisis. Analysts believe this will change in the next 2 to 3 years because within this time frame, homes that were unoccupied will now have people living in them and only then will home building be once again on the upward trend.

What everyone is hoping for right now is a miracle because we are not yet out of the woods when we talk about the current financial crisis. Yes, a $700 billion bailout plan was approved and signed into law but just like Bernanke said, no one expects the recession to end overnight. It is going to take time. Is the home building decline also happening elsewhere? In the case of Canada, the answer is no. In fact, the opposite is happening. If you were to compare the number of houses built for the month ending September this year versus last year, 6,000 more homes were built in 2008 compared to 2007.

There are many reasons for this such like more people want to settle down so they move away from the rest of their family and most importantly the program they have in place happens to be much better across the border compared to what is available in the US. But back to reality, no one can deny that over here, there is a sharp decline in home building. The only thing anyone can do is hope for the best in the months and years ahead so we can perhaps forget that this ever happened.

It is not simply enough to be a little bit informed any longer, now you need to be able to use the search engines effectively in order to find everything that you want. For example, many people go out searching on the Internet and end up on pages that have nothing to do with what they are looking for. This can lead to a lot of frustration and perhaps even them giving up on using the Internet altogether for research.

It is often a matter of being able to search properly and to use all of the search parameters that you have available to you. For example, if you wanted to find some information on how to control body moles, you might end up on a lot of pages that have to do with controlling the animals that have the same name which dig in the dirt in our yard. It seems that lately not a day goes by without some new financial crisis hitting the world markets. Not long ago we saw the collapse of the Lehman Brothers, one of the chief investment banks in the United States.

As true home theater enthusiasts we’d been designing our perfect escape since before we bought our house. We were just looking for the perfect house to fit our dreams. We found it a few years ago and proceeded to design our dream theater with gusto. After a long hard day at work, or an evening of frustrating parenting, the need to escape reality can become overwhelming. Being able to drop ourselves into complete darkness and seclusion and then immerse ourselves in a full senses banquet of sights and sounds from Hollywood we can quickly forget our own headaches and get wrapped up in the big screen. Those two hours are sanity savers without ever needing to leave the house (or get candy thrown at our heads).

Hi Friends!

Another Alex Jeffreys Coaching Session ticked off the list!

I’m at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf while I’m writing this. It’s a Saturday for me. I was working two jobs the whole month: my day job and my alter ego as a web marketer. After yesterday’s 6-hour coaching session, and working like a beheaded chicken at work,

I crashed and slept like a log for more than 12 hours straight.
Now, the afternoon sun is bright and sunny, and there’s a noisy crowd in the shop at Island Plaza.  Most of them look like Fitness First people and they are talking up a storm.

I just walked in with camo shorts, a Bruce Lee (hoo-watta!! weave in weave out, hoo…) t-shirt and a Lenovo netbook in tow. I was dead set in making a blog or two by today! So here we go…
 
My Take-Aways

I want to start with the take-aways because this feels like a longish blog for me. So to give my readers instant gratification, I’ll put the take-aways ahead of the rest.

1.    I’m going to win the contest, Alex! Alex Jeffreys is a smart coach, in his efforts to keep us on our toes and make us take action, he’s given us something big to shoot for. In a nutshell, the most eyeballs who look at our blogs will get a nice prize.

2.    And I’m going to help people AND Win! Yes, readers, you heard it right. I’m going to help others and still win. I believe that the way the universe works, you help people with a full heart, you’ll get a lot of love in return, including getting what you want.

3.    I’m going to step out of my comfort zone and do some videos and slides. Writing’s no problem to me, but videos and youtube stuff is a whole different territory for me. Nevertheless, I’m going to to do it!

4.    I’m going to follow my plan. Yes, like most humans, sometimes I still slack off. But for me to win the contest, I’ll follow my quantified daily and weekly plans to the letter.
It sound sooo simple, but believe me, its going to be a fun ride.

The Coaching

The last Alex Jeffreys Coaching Session was held at about the same time as the last one. 7am Malaysia, 11pm UK, 6pm Eastern Standard, 10am Australia.
As such, I wish I can see how many people are in the class and if I could get my hands on a list of my classmates. I really want to get together and have a great time with these 500-odd people.

The Fortunate 500. Sounds like King Leonidas’ 300 at Thermopylae.   Unlike them, we’ll survive. And like them we’ll turn into Legends.

The 4th Alex Jeffreys Coaching Session Module was about Social Media Money. And the name is quite appropriate.

Alex has an interesting theory about blogs. And he relates this to ocean fishing.
I ask you, where the best place to catch a large school of fish? Where when there’s a vast ocean, can you 100% of the time find enough fish to fill your nets? The answer may surprise you: near or under oil rigs.

The Oil Rig Scenario

When an oil rig is set up, its pylons become occupied by the denizens of the seas. Algae starts growing on the pylons, attracting mollusks to grow on the pylons as well, attracting fish, which attracts even more fish to the oil rig.
Soon enough you got yourself a full-fledged ecosystem running under your oil rig. Left alone for years, it become a long-term fixture in the open seas.

Relate this to blogging. Your blog is the oil rig.
When you create blog articles (algae), you create food for the people make comments on (clams), which attracts web surfers looking for information(fish), to write more comments on your articles (clams) if it is really really good, attracting even more fish (web surfers) to the site….

Soon enough you get referred, tagged, bookmarked and copied, and you’re famous. You’ll be viewed as an expert anda really cool dude to hang around with. A simple strategy which requires patience, honesty, cooperation, and a little bit of hard work on the outset.

The lecture took 2 hours and the rest was the time Alex fielded questions from EVERYBODY who had a question in the call. He absolutely (again) didn’t stop until we had no more questions to ask (and we did ask a ton of questions).

By the time it was over, it was 1pm Malaysia, 5am UK, 12mn Eastern Standard, 4pm Australia.

It was long, and I lost sleep over it, but well worth the time and effort we put in. My classmates are absolutely worth helping out! You can never find another nice bunch of people.

Have you wanted to design a website? I know that I have wanted to create my own website, the problem is that every time I try, I am not able to successfully creat the websites that I am looking to create. A good friend of mind was told that she had adult onset diabets just two years ago and even now she’s still having difficulty adjusting to the changes she has had to made. Because of her glucose intolerance, she’s basically had to give up white rice and bread, except in small quantities. In addition, before and after each meal she has to test her glucose levels to ensure that her blood sugar is not too high.

It’s especially bad not being able to eat snacks iwhen everybody else is capable of drinking regular cokes, soft drinks, milk shakes, and eating fries. But, I guess, the silver lining is that at least she’s learning to eat healthy.

So far, just the meal adjustments have been enough to keep the diabetes in check. Fortunately, she doesn’t have to take insulin and while she should be exercising more to lose weight, it hasn’t worsened the diabetes.

It takes an adjustment to realize that the dietary changes needed to combat diabetes are life long changes. It takes a small toll on friendships as well. When we go out for dinner, we usually make an effort not to make her feel ostracized by ordering too many foods that she can’t share in. But sometimes we do forget and feel a bit of guilt as the order comes and she can’t share. Mostly, though, we’ve learned to have fun with it by doing her diet with her. Ironically, this simple act has brought us closer together.

The experience has also made each of us appreciate our relatively good health and recognize how lucky we are.

I’m finding that it is possible to download some great software tools to help improve my efficiency at work and at home. Some are free and some aren’t. In particular I am thinking about the importance of antivirus software for my computer.

I’ve had the occasional virus over the years, and it can totally ruin hundreds of files and cause very significant losses. Even the more benign viruses can slow you down. So I’ve determined to make sure I always have updated antivirus protection on all my computers.

The thing is, there are a number of good free programs you can download to obtain solid virus protection. I’ve come to learn that the free software does the trick, but I need to also install additional software to protect against trojan horses and adware.

Although usually not as dangerous as a true virus attack, your computer can get really slow if there are thousands of cookies and other gremlins interfering with its operation. The free antivirus software will likely not protect as well against all the internet marauders; so it might be best (and fastest) to buy a modestly priced package like Avast! or Norton.

Finally, as the business world leans towards a paperless environment, there is the need to be able to consolidate and organize all types of files from hundreds of software applications. We’ll likely find more and more the need to convert spreadsheets, text files and photographs to pdf format.

Of course, Adobe is the Big Dog in this field, with a number of other players as well. Adobe Acrobat is probably the best-known software package and there are a few choices of exactly which product in that family you choose. If your needs are very basic, you might be able to get away with the free Adobe Reader. That is pretty limiting though, and I’ve found that I need something that will let me work with the files rather than just read, save, send and print them.

Whichever file management software you select, you’ll find that there are significant time savings in being able to quickly work with pdf files. I suspect this is only going to become more prevalent in the future.

Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name of a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), a group of the world’s leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers (including Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson). The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. This extra capacity combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs will offer consumers an unprecedented HD experience. Recent development by Pioneer has pushed the storage capacity to 500GB on a single disc by using 20 layers.

While current optical disc technologies such as DVD, DVDR, DVDRW, and DVDRAM rely on a red laser to read and write data, the new format uses a blue-violet laser instead, hence the name Blu-ray. Despite the different type of lasers used, Blu-ray products can easily be made backwards compatible with CDs and DVDs through the use of a BD/DVD/CD compatible optical pickup unit.

The benefit of using a blue-violet laser (405nm) is that it has a shorter wavelength than a red laser (650nm), which makes it possible to focus the laser spot with even greater precision.
