The Rhodesian Ridgeback makes a nice compliment to family life. As the word of this breed gets out, many people are trying to find puppies.

One of the considerations should be the health of the puppies. On rare occasions the reputable kennels might find one of their puppies has a health condition known as Dermoid Sinus. However, Dermoids in Ridgebacks have fallen statistically due to careful breeding habbits and if a dermoid does appear, it can be treated surgically.

Not only health, but conformation needs to be kept on top of the list because the puppies will be like the sire and dam. When speaking of “conformation”, we are talking about a lot more than just what a dog looks like.

How the dog moves is also an important consideration and is part of the general conformation of the breed. For example, the way the dog is put together, is considered to be an integral part of conformation. Structure represents an important facet which explains how a dog moves.

What about the temperament of this breed of dog? One of the most interesting things in the Ridgeback standard, is its temperament. What you will notice in the standard is that it states that the Ridgeback should show no signs of aggression. Young toddlers should be fine with this breed with supervision. Ridgebacks should accept other family pets too.

The number of Rhodesian Ridgeback puppies available is on the rise, so special care needs to be taken when finding one. Its best not to just charge right into finding a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy right after the decision is made to get one. Its important to find a reputable Rhodesian Ridgeback breeder when selecting a puppy. The hallmark of a good and reputable breeder is one that shows their dogs at AKC conformation events.
