I am married and 65 years young. I graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from Drexel University and worked for over 35 years as an IT (Information Technology) Consultant in my own company, Odyssey Data Systems, Inc. As I grew older, I found that both my wife and I began taking more and more medications and vitamins. Some were brand names and others were generic versions. Some were marked “Take as needed”, meaning that they stayed in the medicine cabinet until they expired (really forever). Others started as brand names and once they were refilled, became generic versions (the names of which were almost indistinguishable). All pharmacy labels showed what was in the bottle, how much to take and how often; but hardly ever indicated what the medications or vitamins were to be used for.

In addition, whenever we saw a new doctor, he or she always wanted to know what medications we were currently taking. So, we gathered the bottles and tubes, put them in a bag and diligently carried them to the initial consultation. Of course, we then had to return them to the proper location in our medicine cabinet, so as not to be further confused.

If, god-forbid, we needed to see a new doctor in an emergency, that vital information was not immediately available, therefore being extremely dangerous. Well, fully realizing that we were not the only people to have these problems, I began the project of solving them with a type of medication identification help. I then formed my new company – Labels-4-Meds, LLC, in September of 2007.

Many website incompatibilities go unnoticed by the designer and unreported by the users. The only way to be certain a website will work on a particular platform is to test it on that platform.

Planning documentation

Environment

Layout is a double edged sword: on the one hand, it is the expression of a framework that actively shapes the web designer. On the other hand, as the designer adapts that framework to projects, layout is the means of content delivery. Publishing a web engages communication throughout the production process as well as within the product created. Publication implies adaptation of culture and content standards. Web design incorporates multiple intersections between many layers of technical and social understanding, demanding creative direction, design element structure, and some form of social organization. Differing goals and methods resolve effectively in successful deployment of education, software and team management during the design process. However, many competing and evolving platforms and environments challenge acceptance, completion and continuity of every design product.

Collaboration

Early Web design was less integrated with companies’ advertising campaigns, customer transactions, extranets, intranets and social networking. Web sites were seen largely as static online brochures or database connection points, disconnected from the broader scopes of a business or project. Many Web sites are still disconnected from the broader project scope. As a result, many Web sites are needlessly difficult to use, indirect in their way of communicating, and suffer from a ‘disconnected’ or ineffective bureaucratic information architecture.

Form versus function

A web developer / web design agency may pay more attention to how a page looks while neglecting other copywriting and search engine optimization functions such as the readability of text, the ease of navigating the site, or how easily the visitors are going to find the site. As a result, the designers may end up in disputes where some want more decorative graphics at the expense of keyword-rich text, bullet lists, and text links. Assuming a false dichotomy that form and function are mutually exclusive overlooks the possibility of integrating multiple disciplines for a collaborative and synergistic solution. In many cases form follows function. Because some graphics serve communication purposes in addition to aesthetics, how well a site works may depend on the graphic design ideas as well as the professional writing considerations.

When using a lot of graphics, a web page can load slowly, often irritating the user. This has become less of a problem as the internet has evolved with high-speed broadband connections and the use of vector graphics. However there is still an ongoing engineering challenge to increase bandwidth and an artistic challenge to minimize the amount of graphics and their file sizes. This challenge is compounded since increased bandwidth encourages more graphics with larger file sizes.

When faced with a large database and many requirements, a design group may throw far too much information for a server to manage. Alternative technology or additional structure (even another server or site) may be required to fit the demand.

Layout

Layout refers to the dimensioning of content in a device display, and the delivery of media in a content related stream. Web design layouts result in visual content frameworks: these frameworks can be fixed, they can use units of measure that are relative, or they can provide fluid layout with proportional dimensions. The deployment flowchart (a useful tool on any design project) should address content layout. Many units of measure exist, but here are some popular dimension formats:

• Pixel measure results in fixed or static content
• Em measure results in proportional content that is relative to font-size
• Percent measure results in fluid content that shrinks and grows to “fit” display windows
• Proportional, liquid and hybrid layout are also referred to as dynamic design.

Hybrid layout incoroprates any combination of fixed, proportional or fluid elements within (or pointing to) a single page. The hybrid web design framework is made possible by digital internet conventions generally proscribed by the W3C. If any layout does not appear as it should, it is very likely that it does not conform to standard design principles, or that those standards conflict with standard layout elements. Current knowledge of standards is essential to effective hybrid design.

The earliest web pages used fixed layouts without exception. In many business pages fixed layouts are preferred today as they easily contain static tabled information. Fixed layout enforces device display convention, as viewers must set their display to at least a certain width to easily view content. This width can include display of coporate logos, cautions, advertisements and any other target content. Design frameworks for fixed layout may need to include coding for multiple display devices.

Hybrid design maintains most static content control, but is adapted to textual publishing, and for readers, to conventional (printed) display. Hybrid layouts are generally easy on the eye and are found on most sites that distribute traditional images and text to readers. For some sites, hybrid design makes an otherwise cold text column appear warm and balanced. A good example of hybrid layout is WordPress, where liquid design is now optional, and movie and auditory media is stretching the envelope.

Fluid design is useful where content is delivered to an ‘unknown device’ population. Appropriate liquid code displays images, text and spaces proportional to display size. Someone with a handheld can see view and interact with the same content as someone using a large desktop monitor. Fluid display is the future for most layout projects, but let’s consider obstacles to this current direction.

Knowing where you are going is important. You need to be able to do all that you can to find your way. I know that when I am going somewhere new I want to have directions. I always go to mapquest to find the directions.

I want to make sure that I know where I am going. I know that it is important that I find directions and find them from a reliable source.

Not getting lost is very important. I want to make sure that I understand the directions so that I will not get lost. Knowing that I can drive anywhere I need to be is very important.

I am excited, I will be going on a job interview. I have been seeking a new job and the interview that I will be going on is the job that I really want.

I am using mapquest to find the directions to the interview. I do not want to be late, and I know that I will find the best directions on mapquest that will make sure that I will arrive on time.

Being on time for a job interview is important. It will show that you are reliable and care about the job that you are applying for. Taking the time to make sure that you are on time is the firs step to making a good impression.

I am so glad that I have the right directions, and I am ready to leave. I know that getting there will be easy. I can’t wait to see the new office

I´ve recently moved to Riviera Maya, more exactly to some villas in akumal. It´s been a year now and I haven´t seen my family or friends, somehow this holiday season is making me vulnerable.

It seems my potentially politic family is having all the attention since airplane tickets to meet my family for Holidays were incredibly expensive and completely out of reach.

We often meet my boyfriend´s family in our villas in Akumal, sometimes we invite them to stay over for the weekend of even the season but this time we are meeting them in Merida. Merida is a Yucatecan city 3 hour drive distance from my Akumal condo. We are spending this special party at Uncle Mau´s place and the night at grandfather´s hacienda. We are taking Mr. Cache our best companion; grumpy and old boxer with us, he´s never left behind!

And the great part is that I´ve just received a call from a good old friend, actually of one of my best friends; saying that she´s coming to Riviera Maya for a week with her boyfriend and her lovely Uma to salute Mr. Cache over some margaritas at the beach.

So on the 25th I´m leaving Merida for Playa, a virgin town 20 minute drive from Akumal. Probably we´ll be spending New Year´s Eve with them at our villas in Akumal, which sounds perfect for me and for them as well! My first guests in a year!!! I’ll be taking them snorkeling at Yalku, beer bucketing at la Buena vida, deep sea diving with uncle chalo’s dive shop and probably I’ll be taking them to the cenote route by bicycle; which is a 6 hour sunny and exhausting tour.

It is a picturesque village with friendly Cypriot people, nice traditional restaurants, a good shop, bank etc. Tochni is a good location for holidays in cyprus with many villas and apartments for rent as it is near to the beach and easy to reach Larnaca, Troodos mountains as well as Ayia Napa, Nicosia, Limassol, and Paphos, well known tourist resorts in Cyprus.

Aldabra Atoll is part of the Aldabra Group, one of the archipelagos of the Outer Islands of the Seychelles. The second largest atoll in the world after Kiritimati, Aldabra is the coraline tip of a volcanic seamount, coming up from depths of 4,000 to 4,500m (13,120 to 14,760 ft). At 34 km (21 mi) long, 14.5 km (9 mi) wide and just 8 in (26 ft) above sea level, the atoll is made up from four coral limestone islands forming a circle around a lagoon of 224 sq km (86 sq mi).

The lagoon is tidal loses two-thirds of its waters at low tide. Aldabra was given World Heritage status in 1982 to protect its delicate natural environment.

Because the atoll is so remote, many of its species of flora and fauna are found only here. The islets and rocky outcrops in the lagoon provide nesting areas for thousands of birds.

It has possibly the largest population of red-tailed tropic birds and the second largest colony of frigate birds in the world. Many other birds are found here too, including the Aldabra flightless rail, the only flightless bird found on any Indian Ocean island.

The Aldabran giant tortoises are, however, the atoll’s most renowned residents, being the last of the giant tortoises which were once spread across the entire region. Commercial exploitation is believed to have rendered all other giant tortoises in the area wiped out by the mid-19th century, and very nearly exterminated the Aldabran population. Two species of marine turtle also nest on beaches on Aldabra: the green turtle and hawksbill turtle.

Unlike the nearby Seychelles, the atoll is inhospitable to humans as the limestone has been eroded into sharp spikes and water-filled pits. However, the mangroves support fish nurseries, and the lagoon is home to a wealth of marine life, from black-tipped reef sharks to eagle rays and parrot fish.

For almost a century, scientists have been studying the flora and fauna of the atoll, which is uninhabited other than by those working at the scientific research station.

We are used to throwing away everything, but for some reason we want to keep our baby’s items forever.
