Some people, maybe you, believe they just have to have a purebred kitten or cat. Money has been dedicated (typically $100 to $1000 for the rarer breeds), and feel that one or two cats have the characteristics that they are looking for.

For example, you may want a quiet cat.  Good choices here would be Himalayan or Persian cats.  Another person might want a more spunky cat.  Outside where he might play with your solar yard lights. In this case the Siamese or Abysinnian is the cat of choice. So what this means is that you can just about predict how the temperament the cat will have when you decide on a purebred.

The majority simply go down to the closest animal shelter and select a kitten, and take it home, not really worried about how it’s going to act, physique or nature. Most of the cats in America and yes across the planet are adopted with little or no money like that. This means that globally, purebred cats are in the minority. But this is totally different from the dog population. Over one half of all dogs are purebred. And another interesting thing to note is that dogs vary dramatically in size from breed to breed, but cats are just about the same size across the breeds.

Sure, you’re going to get a cat, and it’s OK if you get a mixed-breed or a purebred, what criteria should you note to choose them? Realistically, let’s ponder this question through.

It sounds heavy, but can you just choose a purebred cat knowing that so many mixed breeds are badly needing adoption? But the purebreds will easily find a home and aren’t in jeopardy of losing their lives simply because of supply and demand.

Yep, the decision that’s hard to make. Realistically, the thoughtful potential owner shouldn’t be overly worried about this dilemma. OK, then, apart from the ethical problems of purebred and mixed breeds, you probably want to know what are their differences?

The owner is probably thankful you took the kitten off of their hands. However it’s different if you go to a shelter, know that there is a $25 to $50 fee to cover the neutering and vaccines. Purebreds are different. A bundle of energy, they’ll still pull at your solar landscape lights, but you get the price you put into them and the more unique, the higher the price. Don’t forget checkups and annual vaccines. You’ll need food and litter as well. If you neuter your cat, which you should unless you intend to breed them, that can run around $75.  Just remember that there are certain unavoidable costs involved with owning your new cat.

The basement waterproofing systems and their working.

 To answer that question, let’s first look at historically conventional basement waterproofing and how it is supposed to work.

In case you are curious to know how the basement is built, you will see that the idea was first conceived in the design and then the next steps follow. It starts with the digging of a big hole, then the footer or foundations are laid. After the base is done, the walls of the basement are built and then only the rest of the house is constructed.

 The important point to note is the first one in the list above – that big hole in the ground.

 The construction of basement walls invariably leaves a void on the exterior which requires backfilling. Loose backfill is what is used to fill this void. No matter how well the backfill is compacted, it is still backfill and water seeks the places of little resistance.

Water will constantly ooze into this area. The conventional way of waterproofing a basement provides some form of drainage pipe for this water to drain away, but the problem with this is that often these pipes get silted up. The water is naturally bringing all sorts of suspension with it. When these pipes get filled the system overloads and a lot of water pressure gets applied to the outside walls of the basement. So while the walls of the basement may be waterproofed in some way, water, as you probably already know, will usually find a way through the tiniest of gaps.

 This kind of situation is persistent because the tubes that should drain the excess water eventually deteriorate.

 Many times there is simply no access to these pipes which is a huge oversight. To keep water out of a basement waterproofing is also applied to the external walls. This is often referred to as a tanked system.

The drained cavity basement waterproofing system is a better system that works by getting rid of water pressure in the walls. To protect the property water is controlled, collected and then made to pass through hidden drainage channels which are either natural drainage or sump pumps.

Waterproofing a basement is reputedly a better system when they are installed internally, have easy access ports for removing any silt and can be applied to basements where traditional tanking or other methods have failed but with minimal disturbance to the original basement.

So to summarise, a good basement waterproofing system will:

 - usually be a permanent or long-term solution
 - stop both ways by which water can enter through the walls and up from the floor
- not disturb landscaping, decks, patios, driveways, etc
- usually be an approved waterproofing method for home loans
- often be substantially cheaper than other waterproofing methods

Choose a reputable basement waterproofer when protecting your home, remember it is economically foolish not to waterproof, because the increased value from waterproofing will definitely exceed the cost of the waterproofing.

In conclusion, you want a basement waterproofing system that will deliver:

 - a permanent or long term fix
- stop water through the floor and walls
- not disturb the exterior appearance of your home
- an approved method by home loan lenders
- more affordable than other methods

The problem has been people do not have the ability or incentive to shop medical providers, hospitals, doctors etc. Yes in some state there is a lack of competition among health insurers, but this is not the main issue!

People are completely unaware of what medical services cost; ask anyone who has been a hospital patient if they know what the room and board rate is, or how much does it cost for a doctor to visit your bedside while you are confined to the hospital, or how much does it cost when a hospital gives you an Advil. Most people will not know the answers to these questions, or if they do, they will completely unmoved by the fact that the hospital charges $30 for an Advil, or that the room and board rate is $2500 – $4500 per night. It seems that people just do not care! Do people realize that these outrageous charges are driving up medical insurance premiums?

In a recent conversation I had with a nurse she explained that at her hospital when a nurse administers insulin to a patient, she takes one does from the vile and throws the remaining insulin in the vile away. But the patient is charged for the entire vile. This is the procedure the nurses are instructed to follow by the hospital.

I called the hospital to ask what a vile of insulin costs, I spent 90 minutes being switched from one department to another, I spoke with the billing department, the business office, the Vice President of Patient Services and no one was able to tell me who had access to this piece of information.

I became quiet concerned when the conversation turned and I felt I was being interrogated by the Vice President Of Patient Services, who was I, was I a reporter and why did I want to know?

Final, I was told that if I wanted to know the price of any services offered by the hospital, I would have to go the hospitals business office and look in a book that has the list of prices charged for their services. I asked if I could call that office, maybe someone could look up the charge in question? I was told, very emphatically “no”! When I ask “why not” I was told by the hospital’s VP of Patient Services, “because we don’t have to, the law does not require that we give this information out over the phone”.

Only when hospitals are forced to compete will we be able to control healthcare costs in America. Private health insurance will never be affordable if hospitals, clinics and other medical providers are able to secretly charge whatever they want unhindered by competition.

Why is this problem being ignored by the Obama administration? This problem is costing hundreds of billions of dollars each year and driving up the cost of health insurance. The problem will also not be solved with a government option, that will just mean the problem will be even more hidden from the public. We will see tax increase after tax increase; a national deficit even further out of control than it is now.

Have you ever tried to find a lost friend on the Internet? I have it is not as easy as you might think. I had a good friend in junior high and I have fond memories of hanging out having fun with him. We would hang out listen to music talk just have a great time.

The other day I was thinking about my long-lost friend and I decided to try to find them on the Internet. It seems everyone nowadays uses the Internet so I figured it shouldn’t be difficult to locate him. I pulled up Google typed his name and get pages on pages of results. I checked out page after page but didn’t find any mention of my friend just a lot of people with similar names.

I decided try to narrow my search a bit by including the town and state where we grew up. Unfortunately they were still too many pages to look through for it to be practical to find my lost friend. I decided Google just gave to many results so I would try using a less popular search engine like MSN.

I typed in my friends name and the city and state where we grew up and sure enough I did get a lot fewer results. Instead of hundreds of pages there are only eight. I started looking through those pages of results and I found a couple which I thought would surely lead me to find my lost friend. However, after an hour of searching I still came up empty.

Then I decided to try Yahoo. Since Yahoo search has been around longer than Google or MSN I thought I might have better luck there. Again I entered my friends name the city and state and this time I got about 30 pages of results. I started the arduous task of looking through each and every page and clicking on link after link. Now I was getting frustrated I spent all this time and still cannot find my lost friend.

I pretty much gave up on finding my friend until a couple months later when I discovered reunion.com. I decided to give the site a try and I was amazed at how quickly I was able to turn up results for my lost friend. The service was not free but considering the amount of time I have wasted trying to search in the regular search engines it was definitely worth the small price.

I was able to find a phone number for my friend and I gave them a call. He was very happy to hear from me. In fact, he had been searching for me also. We have a long phone conversation and it turns out that he lived close enough that we could meet for lunch. Although it was more difficult to locate my lost friend than I had imagined it was great to find him and I’m glad I put in the effort.

Mothers, of course, can play a significant role in helping kids get excited about piano playing. The downside of having a mother who is musical when Dad isn’t is that it can send mixed messages. Children may view piano playing as a “girl” activity, at least at home.

Motivating a child to practice regularly is a chore at the best of times. Children are often even less excited about practicing when they know that their parents don’t play. It’s tough for kids to see the value in a musical education under these circumstances.

Dads can make a difference in the musical education of their children even if they’ve never played piano before. It’s never too late to learn something new. You might not become a virtuoso, but that’s not the point. The point is to show your child that piano playing is a valuable life skill.

The 3 day diet is one of those trendy little diets that seems to be popular today.  If you follow the 3 day diet correctly, you can supposedly lose upwards to 10 pounds in just three days.  That seems like a lot of weight to lose in such a short period of time, is it healthy or even possible?

While its certainly possible to lose 10 pounds or even more in just three days, it’s probably not healthy, and generally not recommended by health professionals.  The 3 day diet is invariably frowned on by nutritionists as being an overall a fad diet that is not very effective in producing sustainable weight lose.  Sure you can lose 10 pounds in three days, but the chances are you’ll put it right back on again when you finish. 

The 3 day diet isn’t really anything scientific or overly complicated.  It’s basically just your typical calorie restricted diet.  Most formulas for it involve three meals a day consisiting of very limited portions of low fat, low sugar foods.  Some examples of a few of the meals recommended in the 3 day diet include half a grapefruit and one slice of toast for breakfast; a half a cup of tuna (no mayo) and a slice of toast for lunch; and a three ounce portion of chicken, two cups of vegetables and one cup of ice cream for dinner. 

Like many diets, the 3 day diet recommends drinking 4+ glasses of water daily, and allows you to add any low calorie seasonings to your food, such as Worchester sauce, spices, mustards, vinegars, salt and pepper, soy sauce or ketchup.  It also allows for drinking tea, coffee, or diet soda, so long as there is no sugar added.
