Tips for Learning Spanish

Learning your next language is always a great idea. In the United States today, Spanish is almost as prevalent as English. Think about it: how many times are English messages repeated in Spanish? Locate a course offered on CD. A course on CD is really great for anyone who feels shy about taking on a new language. You will be able to listen to someone pronounce the words and use them in sentences. You’ll find the CD courses are equal in quality as a classroom, yet there’s no stress about making mistakes in front of everyone. And it’s great because you can listen to your CD just about anywhere. Work on improving your “ear” for the language. Many languages are more oral than they are written. As long as it’s a ‘living’ language, you’ll still have to learn to hear it. Writing the alphabet or the correct way to write a sentence is not enough. You will need to understand people when they talk to you. The best way to do this is to listen to as much of your chosen language as possible. You will know you’re on the right track when you can identify your language after hearing a few spoken words.

You need a certain amount of discipline. Learning a language doesn’t have to be hard, but you have to use one system or another. Languages have a certain logic to them, and you have to follow this. Don’t try to start off reading a complex novel; begin with the alphabet and saying “good morning” and the like. The fastest methods always teach vocabulary first and then grammar. Skipping around will only slow you down and make it less clear. There’s no reason to do anything that will slow down your progress.
